PWC Facebook groups help riders connect

Why should you join PWC Facebook groups? Awhile back, I wrote an interesting article about why many jet ski owners don’t get much saddle time each summer riding PWC adventures. Weather aside, it talks about barriers to increased participation. Like not knowing where to go and not having anyone to ride with. Or fear of getting lost on unfamiliar waters during Sea Doo tours.

Certainly, getting started or heading out on your own can be intimidating. Unfortunately, getting jet ski riding information or connecting with other Sea Doo riders can be challenging. Meanwhile, as with any other motorized recreation activity, experience breeds confidence. But where do you get it?

One of the best ways is to ride more, especially with knowledgeable PWC riders. That’s one good reason snowmobiling, motorcycling and ATVing each have clubs. Their clubs provide many benefits like structure, social interaction, mentoring, a sense of belonging and more riding opportunities. But personal watercraft riding tends to be more individualistic. So we have adopted a slightly different model…PWC Facebook groups for jet ski riding and Sea Doo touring.

About PWC Facebook Groups

PWC Facebook groups typically start with avid jet ski riders looking to connect with others to ride with in their area. Thus, most PWC Facebook groups are local or regional. But a few are broader, based on ownership of a specific personal watercraft brand or model, like Sea Doo Owners Official Group. And just so you know, some are also affiliated with personal watercraft manufacturers like Sea Doo, Yamaha or Kawasaki. Or with other PWC related businesses. Most are public (anyone who qualifies can join).

Whatever their origin, PWC Facebook groups can be valuable assets to new jet ski owners. Also to active Sea Doo riders who want to ride more or try different waterways. Plus, get the latest news and updates about their summer fun.

But remember, any group (or club) is only as good as its members. And their willingness to share info, answer questions and welcome newcomers. Most set rules so that their administrators can keep posts civil and relevant. Also, it’s important to remember that any jet ski rides arranged through a PWC Facebook group are at your own risk. As such, you assume full responsibility and liability just as if you were Sea Doo riding on your own.

Joining PWC Facebook Groups

It’s likely best to join one or more PWC Facebook groups with similar interests to yours. The main consideration is that they are based in an area you want to jet ski. Another is how members connect to ride together. Is it by casual posts about who’s going for a ride this weekend? Or do group members organize Sea Doo ride events? How do you know if your jet ski riding style, preferences and experience are compatible? Is it all solo riders or are families welcome? Are PWC ride protocols in place for participants to follow?

Here are some of the PWC Facebook groups I’ve found in Southern Ontario. They listed alphabetically under each heading, with approximate membership numbers. Plus a good one that operates through their website. And of course, you can always go to my Intrepid Cottager website for complete info about self-guided Ontario Sea Doo tours and other jet ski riding tips. Meanwhile, if you know of other Ontario Sea Doo groups or have info to add, please let me know and I’ll update the list.
