Most Sea-Doo owners try to avoid a Sea Doo tour in the rain for obvious reasons. Like getting soaked and poor visibility. And if there’s any chance of lightning, being on the water on a Sea Doo, jet ski or waverunner personal watercraft isn’t a good idea. But sometimes, I’m on a PWC ride and have to get to my Ontario destination. So if the rain starts, there’s no avoiding it.
And let me tell you, Sea Doo riding in the rain can be agonizing. All those drops of water smack into exposed flesh like tiny darts, pinpricks of pain that intensify the faster you go. So the first thing I do if I’m caught riding in the rain is slow down. This way it doesn’t hurt as much and I can Sea Doo ride safely in restricted visibility. Sea Doo Riding Rain Tips: Face, Eyes & Head…
I put on a ball cap and make sure my eyes are protected by its peak. Plus, I add wrap around sunglasses or riding goggles. Then I cover my ears, lower face and nose with a No Fog Mask. I also have both a paddling cap and paddling hood if I need warmth too. If you don’t wear prescription glasses like I do, you could also try a sport utility mask or bass boat face shield.

With my hands settled on the handlebars, they expose their backs to the rain. So I wear a pair of full finger gloves. The tops of my feet and ankles are probably more sensitive to the pinpricks, and although I can move them around more than my hands, I have full neoprene ankle boots for coverage.

Obviously, my PFD covers much of my upper body. But I always have a rain jacket handy, sized to slip over my PFD and cover my arms. I keep my legs protected with either bicycle tights or lightweight water pants.

I don’t want my PWC riding gear to get wet either. So I make sure anything important is in my Sea-Doo’s watertight front compartment. And that all electronics are also in watertight cases or pouches.
This PWC riding gear can make Sea Doo riding in the rain tolerable, if not entirely comfortable. Of course, your best bet is to pay careful attention to the weather and marine forecast before you leave home. But remember, when they say 30% chance of precipitation, the reverse is also true.
